Capsule Summary

The Chopin/Godowsky Etudes were first issued as single CDs and later reissued in a deluxe slipcase box edition under a new catalog number. So far only the single CDs have been examined thoroughly. This volume combines performances of the Chopin/Godowsky Etudes by Carlo Grante, Marc-André Hamelin, and Ian Hobson. Sixteen of the tracks are sped up to varying degrees. The most extreme of these is Track 4 where the reprise of the “A” section is sped up by 21.71%. Unexpectedly, four of the Hamelin tracks are significantly slowed down, ranging from 7.7%–14.5%.
